This is when the commander clarifies the intent of the mission and what needs to be accomplished. And the sergeants are the leaders on the ground who worked with their team to create the plan that will minimize casualties and accomplish the mission. n

nEmployees and middle managers value autonomy. In companies as in people in general, we want our opinions to be heard and we appreciate when we’re given trust, senior leaders can get their employees and middle managers excited about the vision and gear and grant them the autonomy and trust to create the path to make that vision a reality. Well, what if their plan isn’t going to work? The senior leaders might say that I say you’re asking the wrong question. instead ask, How can I support them in a way that increases the odds of success without micromanaging them and robbing them of their ability to learn through failure?n
